Westlanders in for a bad form?

Westlander Utd 4:4 Temasek Royals
(Jagan,Mahatir,Satish,Sasi)
Firstly,it was Sathya who was subjected to the most criticism after the match by his naive behaviour for the dubious red card. It's always difficult when your team is on a bad form, especially when you get a red card and you let your team down. The 19 year old wouldn't normally lose his head but unleashed an avalanche of wrath this time round. He feels bad and regrets over the incident which could have turned the game around if he didn't see red. Going on,the game started quite badly for westlanders as they went down 1-0 through a defence error.Jagan quickly brought westlanders alive by a typical Ruben free kick tipped over by the keeper to allow jagan to head in from millimetres. Then soon westlanders found themselves 2-1 down. This time a silly mistake by Jagan gave way for opponents to capitalise.Never-say-die attitude made westlanders equalise after a series of attacks.A brilliant pass from Sathya broke the offside trap and found its way to Mahatir's feet,a simple dribble and thunderous shot deflected off a Royals defender to hit the back of the net. This time Westlanders went ahead of Royals.Another square ball from Sathya was received by Satish at the edge of the penalty box. Then, excellent footwork from Satish and low-shot goal from the once top scorer. However,Royals got back into the game within minutes after Satish's goal.Halftime ended 3-3. After the break, several changes were made.Johann,Sathya,Mahatir,Yaser,Satiesh out for Sakti,Kumaran,Mohan,Murukesh and Sasi. Then,it was all for westlanders to fight and got their reward for it.Opponents Temasek handballed inside the 6 yard.Sasi stepped up and finished it with flair.Soon,Temasek changed their tactics to a offensive one.Attacking through all over.Westlanders began to flop and slack.Royals found the net punishing Westlanders for a relaxed performance. Then,a controversial penalty was given against Ravi for handball which is still undecided if its beyond or before the D-box lining. To Westlander's relief,Royals gave away the chance by Kicking the ball wide.Mahatir and Sathya was brought in back by boss replacing Hyrul and Mohan.Westlanders began to attack again.Mahatir,Sathya and Satish were all firing shots to keep the Royal's keeper busy. Then the infamous incident happened and Sathya was shown red.Westlanders defended the remaining 10 minutes and settled for a draw. Your comments are widely appreciated.Westlanders please drop your comments definately after reading the article.

  2. it's not nice to see a captain showing a negative attitude in the field. this might taunt the fellow mates to display such intolerable attitude which only leaves de team down of one man. guess everyone should start attending anger management sessions. we are on full from just have to communicate well to finish it off superbly. this season its ours!!!i'll do my part to train up well and be a better sub to be relied on in the future...WESTLANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Throw-in's have to played down the line, because u dont wanna play the ball back & make things difficult for the defenders. This was evident in one of the goals we conceded today. I also do not understand why it is so difficult to do a proper throw-in. Please, for those who really do not know how to do a proper throw-in. The ball has to be completely behind your head before you proceed with your throw. It's that simple. Wake up your ideas for those who are involved in throw-ins. Gameplay is totally different when you have the ball & do not have the ball. If you have a throw in from the left, centre-mid cant just wait in the centre for the ball to come to him. He has to be involved in play from where it restarts. In this instance, from the left side where the throw-in has happened. Another piece of advise. Once the centre midfielders get the ball, the wingers cant simply be dashing up front together with the strikers. We are not playing with 4 men up front. The wingers have to support the centre-midfielders. Once you get the ball, thats' when you run down the flanks to feed the ball to the strikers. What i see is 4 men dashing up front for the ball from the centre-midfielders. Before you know it, the centre-midfielder loses possession of the ball. When ya do not have the ball, you have to drop deep to defend. You cant just stay in your respective positions. Irregardless of your position, you have to drop deep to defend when ya not in possession of the ball.

  4. Actually we're not in a bad form, just that I am not match fit.

But there's a serious problem with our play-style.

    1) We have NO build-up whatsoever. The game is basically between the defence and the wingers. You completely bypass the centre midfielders so we can't spray balls.

    2) With point number (1) comes point number (2) - Midfielders in the centre are subjected to runs all the way to the D-box, hoping for a cross, only to have the winger either a)lose the ball or b)give a bad cross or c)cut in and take the shot himself.

    3) Point (2) leads to point (3) - After running up to attack we have to come down and cover. Do this 10 times and fatigue sets in, and we need time to recover. BUT NO ! We have to fight for the ball ! And where's our support ? Centre backs fucking us for not fighting, and flanks aren't coming close to tighten up the middle 4.

So basically for Westlanders the centre midfield is for fighting for the ball and waiting for the lucky clearance ball and the game is between wingers and defence.

If that's the case I'd rather play goalie -_-

  7. I totally agree wid rp kumar. wen there is a throw in, wingers and central midfielders are jus standing at one place thinking dat de ball land at their feet. they have to move ard. even at some situation de strikers must also join in so de thrower wud have more option. About de wingers dashing up front so fast, it dosent always happens fer throw-ins , it also happens wen there's pass during a goal kick. Me and ravi playing at center back always have very few options to pass ard to keep possesion and raise de momentum. perhaps even de few ppl we pass to is our defenders itselfs. and wen we get pressured at dat point of time all we can do is jus pump de ball up anyhow. wingers and central mids have done a great job attacking. its jus dat we have keep possesion and stay compact. we have to work on it.And hopefully coach starts de best 11 in de line up de next game!! & FER DAT TO HAPPEN, GUYS PLS BE COMMITTED AND COME ON TIME. DONT COME VERY LATE! its all in our hand guys! WE HAVE TO BELIVE, IF WE WANNA SUCEED!

  8. Why?Why does it hurt for everyone to be together. We have to work to together in soccer.I agree all of us have different theories how soccer should be played, but guys wake up!
Our theories will apply when we are the coach of a team. The fact is we are not.We should work on the theory of what coach says. It's how he wants us to play, not we deciding how he should play us.Lets work towards Sam's formation.Maybe we all should predominantly understand his tactics.Perhaps thats the problem,we might not have understood his plan fully. We shall all clarify it and play it with full heart.

  9. A red card is a red card. dont give reactions like ya all disappointed & all. a red card has been dished out cause we have been doing all the dirty work on the pitch. This is to ensure that we have a foothold in the game against opponents. Honestly speaking, no one in the team plays whole-heartedly & aggressively other than those who get red cards. If the whole team plays aggressively & whole-heartedly, do u think there would be red-cards? Please use your common-sense, there isnt any way the whole team can get red-carded. Its because of us (red-card receivers) that try to stamp our authority as a whole team against opponents, so that rival teams dont take us a minced meat. If the rest is gonna blame people getting red-cards as demoralising, do something about it yourself, play like a real sportsmen with aggression & pride. It is evident that people who do the dirty-work for the team are always bound for critisism. I dont see team spirit here. Come on guys, the least you could do as a player in the team is to give some comforting words when someone gets send off and not give comments like its demoralising for the team.

Food for thought: We were leading 2-0 against GetzUnited last week, before the scores changed to 2-5 in the second half. Afterthat, a player for GetzUnited was sent off. & then e scores changing to 3-5. Before I was sent off in the last 10min. So are you guys trying to say that you can only score if e other team has a man sent off? Or rather what happened when we played 11 v 11? we were leading 2-0, but it became 2-5. So we need a handicap all the time we play against rival teams? Think about it team.

  10. U are telling tat oni those who everytime get red-Card play whole-Hearted&Aggressively?Then u are trying 2 tell tat i the other kumarran all nt playing 4 our team whole-Hearted&Aggressively izzit!!! Cme on Man no point blaming the others or comparing ur perfomance with the others...Its abt hw as a team we play and work hard..

  11. guys, all you ahev to do is give your 100% in the game.dont always attack attack.look around.you have to read the game in the first half.only one thing, the winger should try to cut into the penatly box rather than bringing it to the coner.not only that, during corner.its better to give the ball into the far post rather than playing short passes.we have to make use of set pieces too.only the rubans freekick was a effective one.but after that.all the set pieces went way out of target.we should concentrate more and play with the never say die spirit and only then,we can see results.its not only about individual play.its team work.i noe that we can do this.

  12. Ravi, please read the post carefully, No names were mentioned there. If ya think that ya belong in that group, by all means have that perception.

Another good example of players coming under critisism.

First and foremost, where is the conviction for the team when we dont even arrive on time for games at a 5pm kickoff?

  13. Firstly,I'm not tryin to defend those whom get red cards as it is always a minus and a disadvantage fer us(team). Even I have to send out my deepest apologies to the team fer my behaviour last season.

    RAVI :
I dont think you get wad RP Kumar is saying.I totally agree dat almost all are playing whole-hearted & aggressive. As i wrote in my previous sentence its "ALMOST all". If all our 11 players give 100% out. we wil definitly get a positive result at de end of de day. jus b'cos of tis minority, some of our players lose control of their mind and temper.as you can refer to Kumar's example against Gets Utd. WE all gave our 100% and we leaded 2-0 up.And what happened then we were under pressure, and we ourselve shud know as we were playin as CB there was no support fer de defence & we were outnumbered fer 2 or 3 set-pieces which we conceded fer at least one. So its not about playin it , its about how much we're givin it. we always think about quality in our play style but we're not thinkin bout de quantity we shud apply to it. everyone lets take every game as a cup final and play it! Come on guys! We are more capable of wad we did on our previous game.

    Sathya :
As you say we have to understand his tactics. dats a major problem we have now. we must really work on it. but sometimes Coach has to use his tactics by the players way of play. It takes two hands to clap. I really think there is a big gap between us and coach wen it comes to tactics. Sometimes coach has to consider everyones ideas too. 11 or more brains are way better den one. No offence to his tactics. but maybe it can be better if we can all play a small part in de tactics before de game. & in order fer this to happen, communication off de field, commitment fer de team and 100% on field plays a big part.

    Johann :
cenral midfielders are de ones wum shud be leading de team e.g. shouting man on, asking a player to drop to defence. you guys shud be giving orders rather den taking it. but i barely hear your voices. at times you guys shud even give orders to defenders. I'm not telling you guys to control de game by yourself, you guys are playing in de central mid, you guys will have a betta view of de game den anybody.

In your case Jo as you stated in your 1st point claiming dat you CM's are not getting de ball often.its simple, you guys have to move ard and stay away from your opponent and ask fer de ball. how are we supposed to pass you the ball wen there's a opponent right beside/behind you. And you guys have to open your mouth and ask fer de ball.

& your point no.2. tokin bout de wingers losing the ball, sending a bad cross, cutting in and takin the shot themselves. dats wer your understanding with de wingers come. you shud know your wingers play well. as fer ryan he doesnt run much but he sends in a number of good crosses in dis situation you can enter de D-box and as fer satya he is good in dribbling past defenders and takin shots and fer him you shud know not to enter de d-box, instead of that you guys can support him by standing somewer near him so he can make a pass to you to take a shot or something. Its all bout understanding each other guys. we are all perfect enough just dat we have to learn each others way of play.

& your 3rd point is obvious and i'm telin again jus start to shout and communicate wid your wingers tell them to come closer to tighten up. dont only do this before the game, also do this during de game.

and if you know you're not fully fit enough to do it by yourself ask someone to support you. dats y we're called a team.

Basically fer CM's their problem is simple. You guys jus have to start communicating wid all your players. Open your mouth and give orders wen needed. lead the team and all will come right fer you guys.

And Jo even Goalie isnt a easy position to play in its harder then you think. =D

  16. Fellow gentlemen, before I pick a stand I would to declare that the root of all the problems could be/is my fitness.

Having said that, I would like a setting where the team play to each and everyone's capabilities.I do agree with Jo's comment on certain instances.

Firstly,if you notice since last season often in centre we are being overpowered by the number of opponents. There are either two or more opponents compared to the number of our players. They're much bigger and better in the air.As a result, they win 9 out 10 firstballs.I would like to suggest we have additional manpower in such situations.etc having one of the centre-backs to help.

Secondly, we do have to maintain a 4-man midfield at any point of time when the game is being broken (i.e.goalkicks).This should be automatic and not upon command.

Thirdly, as CM, we are not given instructions from the people behind us. Yes, I do hear scoldings and shooting-downs after we do mistakes. Why don't we use that sound to manipulate the CM-telling them properly when to go for a player/ball and when to hold the position??.Please watch our back, I'd say.

Lastly, please allow creativity to the CM.We are not given time to think.Simply put,The defence wants us to defend, the attack want us to attack. As you see, both D-boxes are quite far from one another. Thus, please give us some time and leninency (only if we lost the ball-which could be avoided if there's someone behind to guide us with verbal commands).

Thus, saying that,I would like to you all to look at the issue from our point of view.

PS:I am not that very fit, I can only do that much. After all, if my own friends/team don't help me,then who will?

  17. G Jagan comments
    Agreed:

"in order fer this to happen, communication off de field, commitment fer de team and 100% on field plays a big part"-----------

I think its true also!We are not communicating enough. Before game or during break,we first11 do not have the spirit to gather around and talk out factors to make our gameplay better.Instead,we do our own stuff E.g. Go smoke and washroom long periods, check handphone. Is halftime for this?
We should really work on it guys...

"I really think there is a big gap between us and coach wen it comes to tactics"--------------

For this quote, how many guys actually voice out their opinions to coach directly?Me? Jagan? Ravi? Rp? Only a handful if we think about it.Some others agree to whatever coach says in team talk and disagrees later to us.Solution:Everybody should share their ideas engrossed during team talks and have better relations with coach.
For instance,Johann will be kicking the ball around only when coach is talking. Is he listening through other sense or intending to play his own soccer later in the field. However, its not just him alone doing all these.

    Disagreed:
"Sometimes coach has to consider everyones ideas too. 11 or more brains are way better den one. No offence to his tactics"

Its not necessary for coach to consider everyone's idea. The beauty of being a coach is to be pragmatic.Take a look at Benitez,Alex Ferguson etc. They do not take ideas in from the players. If Benitez thinks Gerrard's out even though he's fit and ready. He is still out.Same goes to us.Coach has watched us from the sidelines for years. He should have more knowledge then any of us and he knows best.11 brains might obviously prove its better than one coach but it does not prove its definately effective than coach. We might not have the same maturity and experience as coach. However, its good to voice out particular incidents. We cannot expect him to consider our ideas. We need to win games. Our boss gives out instructions and we do it effectively. If we don't do well in game then we should not blame instructions,we should blame ourselves for not carring out the task properly.

  18. I do agree with the Captain that we aren't communicating/planning before the game. I maybe one of them and would change that habit of mine.

  19. wow wow wow....relx guys...everyone tryin to cover thier asses directly or indirectly...looks like no one gives a damm on how to improvise in a positive manner but only all of us r arguin like small kids with each other...instead of givinh such LONG comments in this blog unnecessarily, we could have just expressed it all during saturdays halftime right??we could have turn de tables arnd simply..time is very precious during de game is well known to all of us but seems like no one uses it well.. de only issue we ever worry abt is, who is going to sub who..tts all...recalli back one bitter incident would be de 9-1 lost with total football..during halftime did any of us talked abt anything usefull which would be of useful to us for de next 45mins??after de gameonly all of realise tt we shd have played defensive..even tt coach told us...so instead of wastin our time here talkin abt past which is not going to help us in anyway or tryin to cover up their asses, think wat could be done for de next match..who should do wat...when someone scores..its considered de whole team scored or the other way round for losing...work as a team strive as a team..

  20. Don't be offended guys
Basically, what i am trying to say is lets not care what's past us,and don't start blaming each other. Its good u all come up with super ideas to make the team better, but, talking so much doesn't help.U have to show it in and off the field.Start by coming games early and working as one.No individualism.

  21. Satya, I've got no objections to what you said. and me and you(capt/v.capt),i think we shud take de first step and get our team united.

And guys lets put a full stop to all our complains here & lets prove our potential on de next game. no point crying over spilled milk.

anything you guys wanna prove do de first step by coming on time to de game(4pm at de field). Even i wud stop coming late. its fer de team and particularly our coach.

lets start anew guys! and we WILL! i really belive in our team! we can go far. so i wud be really glad to see everyone at 4pm on our match on sat.

guys let show wad we're made of!

  23. Sasi : As you wrote,

"in centre we are being overpowered by the number of opponents. There are either two or more opponents compared to the number of our players. They're much bigger and better in the air.As a result, they win 9 out 10 firstballs.I would like to suggest we have additional manpower in such situations.etc having one of the centre-backs to help"

    - in dis situation you must order us to help you up wid de first balls. its de matter of you sayin it out to us. we cant jus move up to middle at anytime as we need to organise our defence first so there wud'nt be any holes in de center of de defence and if there happens to be one it may create a danger as we are suppose to protect de goal after keeper. just tell us earlier if you're under pressure so we can help.

And your third point is something our defence shud work on. we will do our best in de next game.
